I am as smart as a 5th grader...

It's not new to me that my sweet boy would rather play than study. He loves school for the social...not the academic. After receiving two Ds on this first two tests of the year, we had a teacher conference to chat about his future as a repeat 5th grader (I exaggerate). It turns out, without parental help, Jett has little motivation to study or excel in his grades. So here I am, back in the 5th grade. I can tell you anything you want to know about the Inca and Algonquin tribes, Columbus, Cortes, Vasco de Gama and Ponce de Leon and who circumnavigated the globe in which year sailing from which country. My personal favorite is my renewed knowledge of potential vs kinetic energy but what I'm looking forward to the most is US states and capitals because I aced this as an actual 5th grader so Jett's in for a treat with me as his study buddy! :) I can also do math in a whole new "outside the box" way and if asked, I can kick your booty at kickball and capture the flag. I'M IN THE FIFTH GRADE AGAIN!!! I have to admit, to my surprise, that I love working with Jett to study and figure out crazy ways to remember facts. He has earned 3 As since mom became a 5th grader and his teachers are pleasantly surprised at his achievements. A little motivation goes a long way and some threats that he'll be laughed at if he's a 5th grader again next year. I'm a mean mom but it's working!!!
